โœฆ Synopsis

Insurance companies are legally obliged to give a certain part of their return to policyholders in life and health insurance. As any return given to policyholders cannot be paid out to shareholders a conflict between share-and policyholders arises. Insurance companies should take these aspects into consideration when communicating with shareholders and other market participants. Apart from that the aims and the instruments of investor relations are almost the same as in the industrial sector. However, the examination of important instruments shows they have hardly been used for the purpose of investor relations so far. An example is the annual financial statement of insurance companies. Most insurance companies give only such information which is required by law and only rarely do they pass beyond this limit.
