## Abstract The kinetics of the reaction of O(^3^__P__) atoms with acetone were investigated using fast flow methods. The reaction was studied over a temperature range of 298 to 478°K. The specific rate constant obtained was (1.9 ± 0.4) × 10^12^ exp(—5040 ± 180/1.987 __T__) cm^3^/mol·sec. The obser

✦ Synopsis
The reaction of Cr( CO)s with 0 ("P) atoms was studied in an isothermal discharge-flow reactor with He and Ar as a main carrier gas. 0 atoms were produced by discharging Os/He mixtures. The species in the flow system were detected with a quadrupole mass spectrometer via a molecular-beam system. The rate constant of the reaction 0(3P) +Cr( CO)(+products was measured at a pressure of p=2 mbar under pseudo-first-order conditions [O],,= [Cr(CO)& by following the [Cr(CO),] decay: k(298 K)= (1.2kO.3) X 10" cm' mol-' s-'. The reaction product CO2 was detected directly in the pressure range S$pg 10 mbar. Cr oxides or Cr atoms or clusters were not observed in the gas phase as products of the above reaction. Cr(CO)s was observed indirectly via the formation of CI(CO)~ in the reaction Cr(CO)S tCO+Cr(C0)6.
For the first reaction the primary step Cr(C0)6+0+C02tCr(CO), is discussed.
