✦ Synopsis

The study was conducted on the effects of Cr203, Fe20 ~, Cu(OH)2,ZnO and Pb20(OH) 2 on the formation of ettringite and miEr6structure of hardened ettringite.

The cement samples were prepared by mixing C~A synthesized and CaSO4.2H20 and adding 5 % by weight of above additives The heavy metal oxides and hydroxides promote the crystal growth of ettringite and produce some changes in microstructure and Cr203 and Cu(OH)2 exert a considerable influence.

Two mechanisms of forming ettringite have been proposed: one, through solution reaction; the other, through topochemical reaction. Using XRD and SEM, ettringite were investigated, which formed form very low SQr-concentration ([SOJ2-] +V lO\_r" M/L). That low S012-concentration was caused by adding s

From their kinetic data, Drs. Brown and LaCroix have inferred that ettingite formation in the system C3A-CaSOn.1/2H20-H20 is diffusion controlled. They have also inferred that ettringite crystals in this system grow unidirectionally. In view of the known needle shapes of ettringite crystals, the las

Carboxy-terminated polybutadiene (CTPB) was oxidised as a coating on various metal oxides by heating in air on a thermobalance. The oxidation was found to be free from diffusion control and was catalysed by certain of the oxides. The catalysis was shown to be independent of semiconductor type and to
