The effect of the surface area on the separation in gas-liquid partition chromatography*
During the evaluation of a new instrument** for the determination of specific surface areas, the surface area of five chromatographic support materials were measured. These data led us to investigate the difference in the separation effect of chromatographic columns using these support materials.
The five support materials used for the investigations were the following: Firebrick, 601100 mesh (Johns-Manville) Chromosorb, 60/1 oo mesh (Johns-Manvillc) Chromosorb W, Type 6, 601100 mesh (Johns-Manville) Colitc 60/100 mesh 545, (Johns-Manville) Teflon-I, < 35 mesh (du Pont)
