โœฆ Synopsis

The coverage of a sample of individuals from a biological community is deยฎned as the total relative abundance of the species represented in the sample. A simple estimator of coverage is based on the number of species represented in the sample by a single individual. This estimator works well when the individuals are sampled independently with respect to their species. This paper explores the performance of this estimator under a Markovian sampling model. It is shown that this performance is badly degraded when there is even modest dependence.

Time estimation was measured in 33 heavy smokers, 34 non-smokers and 23 ex-smokers over two experimental sessions. All smokers abstained from smoking for 30 min prior to each session. Half of the smokers smoked a cigarette prior to time estimation measurement in the ยฎrst session, whereas the remaini
