Carbapenem antibiotics cause pharmacokinetic interaction with valproic acid (VPA) in clinical pharmacotherapy. Here, we investigated the mechanism of interaction from the viewpoint of erythrocyte distribution of VPA in rats and humans. Imipenem or panipenem was administered intravenously and then VP
