β¦ Synopsis
The effect of an electric field on the Bragg reflection of the liquid-crystalline cubic blue phases BP I and II has been studied. The results can be explained by a reorientation of the cubic BP lattice in the electric field. A BP II/I phase transition cannot be induced by the field in the systems under examination. * Dedicated to Professor Horst Sackmann on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

It is shown that in the cubic liquid crystalline blue phase I a given lattice orientation cannot be changed by electric fields up to 10" V cm-' because of the high stiffness of the BP I structure.
