A simple and rapid method is described for the determination of l-40 pg g" calcium in steels by electrothermal atomic emission spectrometry. The sample is dissolved in nitric acid and does not need preconcentration. The use of a recessed platform is shown to improve reproducibility and sensitivity

The determination of manganese in iron and steels by u.h.f. plasma torch spcctrometry is described. The intensity of Lhe Mn II 257.16~nm ion line decreased with incrcasinl! concentration of iron, whereas the intensity of the Mn 140X.07-nm atom line increased; only the Mn 1279.48.nm atom line showed
A method is described for the accurate and precise determination of boron, beryllium and lithium in coal ash and geological materials by a point-to-plane high-voltage spark optical emission spectrometric technique. A 200-mg sample is crushed and blended with graphite, copper oxide internal standard
