The engineering literature has lately shown an intense preoccupation with the estimation of signal delay in MOS integrated circuits.'-6 But the approximation of distributed elements by RC ladder networks (even 'infinite' R C chains') is used throughout with an accuracy which is not clear.'

Unlike these, we give below an evaluation of the speed of the transient regime for an 'exactly' modelled rcg line with a resistive load R and excited by a step voltage E (Figure 1).
