Previous studies (14) of B-diketones have shown that these compounds exist, in the solid, in the enolic form with localisation of the enolic hydrogen.

In view of the similarities between the B-diketones and the monothio-f+diketones it was felt appropriate to investigate a representative monothio-8-diketone in some detail.
