Crystals of 2‐acetyl‐5‐bromo‐thiophene are orthorhombic, space group Pbca, Z = 8, cell dimensions a = 7.334, b = 11.156, c = 17.906 Å.

The conformation of the thienyl ring with respect to the carbonyl group is single‐trans.
