✦ Synopsis

The t e m p e r a t u r e at which Chlorella 211/8h was grown d e t e r m i n e d the response to a subsequent stress of freezing to and thawing from -196 ~ C. Cells cultured at 20~ were the most sensitive to freezing injury; at b o t h higher and lower growth temperatures resistance to d a m a g e induced by freezing developed. A t all culture t e m p e r a t u r e s examined the freezing tolerance varied with the age o f culture.
