We present a new formulation of the various contributions to the electronic factor of bridge-assisted electron transfer rates, which explicitly takes into account the many-electron character of the wavefunctions and the overlap integrals between adjacent orbitals. Aside from superexchange terms, this formulation focuses on an important new multiple-exchange contribution.
