The solid state conformation of the amorphous catalyst cyclo-[(S)-His-(S)-Phe] is

determined by a combination of solid state tH and 13C NMR techniques. The results provide strong evidence in support of the previously proposed mechanism for the asymmetric addition of HCN to aldehydes catalysed by this dipeptide.
