This report reviews our recent studies of the catalytic transformations of thiiranes and vinylthiiranes by tungsten pentacarbonyl complexes. Whereas the thiranes yield only macrocyclic polydisulfides, the latter reactions yield only the cyclic monodisulfides known as 3,6-dihydro-1,2-dithiins.
