✦ Synopsis

B-chromosomes were studied in two Spanish populations of Locusta migratoria. Both exhibit a high frequency of B-carrying individuals (75% and 94%). In both the B-chromosomes are mitotically unstable and they accumulate in the male germ line. The mean rate of accumulation is 28.5% in Bafios de la Encina and 31.9% in Carboneras. There are no significant differences in mean cell chiasma frequency and between-cell variance of chiasmata between follicles with different number of B's within individual males. Likewise, there are no significant differences in mean cell chiasma frequency and between-cell variance between males with and without supernumeraries. However, a significant negative correlation exists between mean chiasma frequency and the rate of accumulation.
