โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Experimental work is described in which ethane and propane have been autothermally cracked by admixture with air in a reactor packed with alundum spheres. The results obtained confirm those of Deanesly & Watkins^3^ in which high thermochemical efficiencies were reported. It has proved possible to predict the performance of such a reactor operating under varying air to gas ratios and feed rates. These predictions are in agreement with experimental findings and with established rates of combustion. Such calculations should be of value in assessing the economics of largeโ€scale operations of the autothermic process.

Analysis of product distributions shows that little selective combustion of hydrogen occurs.

## Abstract The kinetics and product distributions of the thermal cracking of binary and ternary mixtures of ethane, propane, __n__โ€ and __i__โ€butane were determined in a pilot plant under conditions of residence time, temperature, total pressure, and dilution as close as possible to those prevaili
