✦ Synopsis
The association between tertiary amines and some alcohols has been investigated by means of IR spectrosoopy in the temperature range + 50°C to -26'~.
Toluene was used as a solvent.
The wave number difference of free and associated OH bands AvOH was obtained along with the thermodynamic constants K (equilibrium constant), -AH (association enthalpy) and -AS (association entropy), assuming the existence of 1:l associates only. The results obtained are mutually consistent; they depend critically on the alcohols used. The absorbance of the associated OH bands, its temperature dependence, as well as the temperature dependence of AvOH are discussed in detail.
