β¦ Synopsis
In an earlier paper 1) tentative expressions for optical absorption by semiconductors were obtained by averaging expressions valid for metals over the "transport distribution function", and the results discussed. In the present work, more general formulae are derived rigorously by solving the integro-differential equation of the anomalous skin effect. *) Compare for instance Reuter and Sondheimer's z) p. 343. Note that they define E(--x) = E(x). Such a notation is not convenient fnr our approach. **) Unlike the case of a degenerate electron gas, the present problem cannot be simplified by expressing the depth in units of the mean free path rv, since ~ and v must be treated as variables.
t) Not e -urΒ°z, since this would lead to a function of ro (and hence of v) appearing on the left-hand side of (1) without being acted upon by the operator V.
