✦ Synopsis

Sin&t oxygen in the 'A state is rapidly quenched in the gas pkaw: by triplet state sensitizers such as quinoxaline and -r aphthalene. The bimolecular rate constants for the quenching reaction are 7 x 101oMM'l~~ -' and 9 x 101'M" set for quinoxaline and naphthaIene, respectively. Relaxation to % lower lying charge-transfer state of the sensititeroxygen coinplex is suggested as the most plausible mecknism iOr the loss of IA.

The measurements of two rotational transitions of oxygen in the a 'Ag electronically excited state in the millimeter and submillimeter wave region allowed a more accurate determination of the molecular pazmeters of this molecule. The newly determined values in MHz are Bo = 42504.523(4),Do = 0\_1526(
