✦ Synopsis

A laminar jet instrument was used to measure the molecular diffusivities of oxygen with 0.995 partial pressure into distilled water and aqueous solutions of eight long chained polymers.

Molecular diffusivity of oxygen into distilled water was found to be 1.95 x 10m5, at 20Β°C which compares favorably with those reported in the literature. For polymeric solutions, it was found that the diffusivities are a function of concentration and type of polymer used. For one polymer, ET 597 at 1000 mg/l the diffusivity was found to increase considerably as compared with distilled water (sET_587/ 9 water = 2.46).

A simple batch sorption method is examined for diffusivity determinations of binary solutions of low molecular weight organic compounds in amorphous polymers. The method is based on solute uptake from a stirred liquid solution by a polymer sheet sample submerged in the liquid solution and measuremen
