✦ Synopsis
The 02 (A' 3Au) state, now known to be present m the nightglow and Iaboratory dischrges, is shown to be inverted. Ohservatlons that only the SZ = 3 component radiates to a IAg, and only the s-t = 1,2 components radiate to X 3E& are exphned.
The occurrence of non-equilibrium popuhions of the spin components is pointed out.
