✦ Synopsis

As with previous meetings of this organization, the program contained authoritative reviews, and innovative original work describing clinical and experimental subjects within the broad realm of microsurgery. Invited papers included overviews of microsurgical research (Dr. Di Catania); the tissue protective physiology of carbon monoxide (Dr. Nakao); robotic surgery (Dr. Schlachta); lymphedema (Dr. Campisi); microsurgical gastrointestinal procedures (Dr. Gassel); and genetically engineered rats (Dr. Kabayaashi). Dr. Gu gave a retrospective lecture on his remarkable 40 years career in microsurgery, and Dr. Siemionow reported on her team's work toward establishing clinical face transplantation. Original papers included presentation of work on transplantation, microsurgical techniques and training, and clinical innovation.
