✦ Synopsis

In the literature on spatial point patterns, the distribution of Eberhardt's index is obtained empirically. In this paper, using multivariate central limit theorem, the asymptotic distribution of Eberhardt's statistic is obtained in three spatial patterns viz., random, aggregated and regular. Based on these, tests of randomness are developed for detecting the type of spatial pattern. Powers of these tests under both aggregated and regular alternatives are evaluated. The tests are powerful under various degrees of aggregation and regularity.

## Abstract Drought is a slow‐onset, creeping natural hazard and a recurrent phenomenon in the arid and semi‐arid regions of Gujarat (India). In Asia, the standardized precipitation index (SPI) has gained wider acceptance in the detection and the estimation of the intensity, magnitude and spatial e
