## Abstract An experimental system was developed that allows direct measurement of friction at the tendon‐pulley interface, and the results were interpreted by use of a theoretical model for friction of a cable around a fixed pulley. Validation experiments were conducted with a nylon cable around a

✦ Synopsis
The coefficient of friction is a very important operational characteristic of brushes, which is indirectly measured according to conventional methods by measurement of the tangential forces acting on the brush. Methods making possible measurements of the static and dynamic coefficient of friction are suggested because only the static coefficient of friction can be measured by coventional methods, Two measuring methods have been developed and described; an electrical balance can be used for slower dynamic changes, and a resistance bridge for faster dynamic changes. Key Words-Carbon brushes, coefficient of friction, testing methods. pulsating current, cyclic heating.
