✦ Synopsis

Methods of introdueting local tension into a bicubic surface patch are discussed. Tension, the reduction of arc length, in the scalar valued case is achieved by a change of basis, and for the vector-valued patch, by the convex hull property. The ability to reduce arc length along boundary cttrves allows the user to change the surface area of a pa6ch. This change does not affect the derivative at the corners of the patch. Thins, this gives to the user a very natural handle on the patch.
