✦ Synopsis

We study two marked point process models based on the Cox process. These models are used to describe the probabilistic structure of the rainfall intensity process. Mathematical formulation of the models is described and some second-moment characteristics of the rainfall depth, and aggregated processes are considered. The derived second-order properties of the accumulated rainfall amounts at dierent levels of aggregation are used in order to examine the model ®t. A brief data analysis is presented.

## Abstract Given the structural shortcomings of conceptual rainfall–runoff models and the common use of time‐invariant model parameters, these parameters can be expected to represent broader aspects of the rainfall–runoff relationship than merely the static catchment characteristics that they are

To study the persistence structure causing interannual variability in monsoon rainfall, stochastic modelling of monsoon rainfall data at 50 different stations across India has been attempted. For this, correlograms and partial correlogram wherever necessary, have been developed from 41 years of data
