✦ Synopsis
The temporal behavior of the 07 -center quartet-state emission in calcium oxide has been studied as a function of temperature. The enhanced phosphorescence decay rate at higher temperatures is attributed to an Orbach-type thermalization among the quartet-state spin sublevels.
