## Abstract A laser flash photolysis–resonance fluorescence technique has been employed to study the kinetics of the reactions of atomic chlorine with acetone (CH~3~C(O)CH~3~; __k__~1~), 2‐butanone (C~2~H~5~C(O)CH~3~; __k__~2~), and 3‐pentanone (C~2~H~5~C(O)C~2~H~5~; __k__~3~) as a function of temp

The fluorescence of CFCl and CC12 excited by a tunable dye laser has been observed in the gas phase. The radiative lifetimes are 644 f 18 and 3810 i 300 ns respectively consistent with matrix results. The quenching rate ofCCl2 is greater than for CpCl and varies with the wavelength of excitation.
