This version was produced in 1850 by a team of scholars from Jaffna, a region in northern Sri Lanka. The translation was mainly done by Peter Percival, a British missionary, and Arumuka Navalar, a Tamil scholar and reformer. The Jaffna translation is notable for its use of classical Tamil and its incorporation of Hindu cultural elements. It is also one of the earliest translations of the Bible into an Asian language.
