## Benzoic acid carboxyl 14C (5 m M ) is reduced by LiAlH4 into benzyl alcohol 7-l". Oxidation of the latter by lead tetracetate in pyridine gives benzaldehyde J4CO which, without isolation is condensed with malonic acid. Cinnamic acid 3J4C is obtained with a 86 overall yield. Purified by sublimat
