Abstract
Two guanidinateβbased terbium complexes [i__PrNC(N__i__Pr~2~)N__i__Pr]~m~TbCl~3βm~ [m = 3 (1), 2 (2)] were synthesized, and the crystal structure of 1 was determined by singleβcrystal Xβray diffraction. Complexes 1 and 2 were further characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and ^1^H NMR spectroscopy. In complex 1 the guanidinate ligand coordinates to the terbium atom through the nitrogen atoms in a bidentate chelating coordination mode. As a result of an efficient energy transfer from the guanidinate ligand to the central Tb^3+^, both 1 and 2 have been found to exhibit strong green emission corresponding to Tb^3+^ ^5^D~4~β^7^F~J~__ (J = 6, 5, 4, 3) transitions. Among them, the emission ^5^D~4~β^7^F~5~ (550 nm) is the most prominent. The lifetimes of the ^5^D~4~ Tb^3+^ excited levels of the two complexes were determined to be around 0.90 ms. ## Abstract A novel series of Οβalkynyl complexes of orthomercuriated Schiff bases of substituted benzylideneanilines and anthracenylmethyleneanilines were synthesised in good yields by alkynylation of the mercuric chlorides of the appropriate Schiff bases with terminal alkynes RCβ‘CH (R = Ph, ferro
