✦ Synopsis
Ytterbium metal reacts with thallium(I) 3,5-diphenylpyrazo-razolate complex, [Yb(Ph 2 pz) 2 (DME) 2 ]. The molecular struclate, or with diphenylmercury and 3,5-diphenylpyrazole ture reveals eight coordinate ytterbium(II) with two cisoid η 2 -(Ph 2 pzH) in tetrahydrofuran or 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) 3,5-diphenylpyrazolate and two chelating 1,2-dimethoxygiving, after appropriate isolation, the first lanthanoid(II) py-ethane ligands.
