✦ Synopsis

The IR spectra of compounds ( ) and ( 6 ) contain pronounced bands at 2260 cm-1, 1640 cm-1, and 1770 cm-1, which indicate the presence of N=C=O, C=N, and a halogenoformyl group. The spectra show that compound (2a) exists wholly in the isocyanate form, but that (2d) exists almost wholly in the N-(chloroformyl) form. The other compounds exist as an equilibrium mixture of the isocyanate and the N-(halogenoformyl) form. Triethylamine shifts the equilibrium towards the isocyanate form.

## Abstract Qualitative limitations were presented for a formation reaction of a series of bridged compounds from ketones and malononitrile catalyzed with potassium fluoride‐alumina in acetonitrile [1]. The bridged com pounds were obtained from only unhindered alkyl methyl ketones. The compounds re
