Sulfonomethyl derivatives of aldos-2-ulosonic acids have been synthesized by addition of the ethyl methanesulfonate earbanion to aldonolaetones. A sulfonylated mimic molecule of the sialyl Lewis X tetrasaecharide has been prepared by using a new sulfonomethyl ulosonic acid analogue.
