## Abstract A group of radioactive 1,4‐benzodiazepine derivatives have been synthesized from glycine‐1‐^14^C. The subject compounds are labeled with carbon‐14 in the 2‐position of the 1,4‐benzodiazepine ring system.

## Abstract 7‐Chloro‐5‐(2‐chlorophenyl)‐1,3‐dihydro‐2H‐1,4‐benzodiazepin‐2‐one labeled with carbon‐14 in carbon 5 of the diazepine ring has been synthesized. The compound was prepared in a multistep synthesis from barium carbonate‐^14^C in an overall yield of 23%.
In the title compound, C 22 H 18 C l2 N 2 , the seven-membered heterocyclic ring is in a boat-shaped conformation. The molecules are linked by N-HÁ Á ÁN hydrogen bonding into one-dimensional chains along the [010] direction.
