Abstract

Starting from divarinol (4) using previously published procedures, (±)‐6,6‐[^2^H~6~]Dimethyl‐11‐nor‐Δ^9^THCV‐9‐carboxylic acid (3) was synthesized for use as an internal standard in GC/MS analysis of 11‐nor‐Δ^9^THCV‐9‐carboxylic acid (2). The detection of 2 distinguishes the use of marijuana from the ingestion of Marinol^®^. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
