✦ Synopsis

a-Anilinonitriles were unexpectedly converted to 3-iminodihydroindoles via the Thorpe-Ziegler cyclization during the benzoylation. 3-Iminodihydroindoles were transformed to 3-aminoindoles in good yields via an allylindium-mediated decyanative aromatization.
