## Abstract The excitatory, amino acid Β±2βaminoβ3β(3βhydroxyβ5βmethylisoxazolβ4βyl)propionic acid hydrobromide was prepared in gram quantities in an 3.3% overall yield from methylbut 2βynoate. The key step was the facile preparation of methyl 3βbromoβ5βmethylisoxazoleβ4βcarboxylate.
