## Abstract The reactions of 3‐acetoacetyl‐7‐methyl‐2__H__,5__H__‐pyrano[4,3‐__b__]pyran‐2,5‐dione with aromatic amines afforded 3‐(arylaminomethylene)‐6‐methylpyran‐2,4‐dione. Our results allowed the correction of the structures reported in the literature for the products of these reactions.

The molecular structure of the title compound, C 13 H 10 O 6 , contains a cis-enol ring disordered with respect to the position of the hydroxyl proton. The crystal structure contains sheets perpendicular to the bc plane.
