✦ Synopsis
We report on the conversion of cholesterol to A=*7 -cholestadien-la,3g-diol diacetate (6) the photoprecursor of the physiologically active la-hydroxyvitamin D3,1 via A6-cholesten-la.Sg-diol @a). The latter compound was synthesized by modification of a recently published procedure of Li/liquid NH3 reduction of the epoxydienone (l)* which is obtained in ca. 35% in two steps from cholesterol.
This reduction was performed as follows: a solution of (1) (4 g) in tetrahydrofuran (350 ml)
