A convenient route for the synthesis of pure 1,2-dipalmitoyl-x-glycer-3-yl-D-w-inositol l-phosphate is presented. Phosphatidylinositol (la), which is one of a number of phospholipids found in the membranes of animal cells, is a key intermediate for the production of the intracellular second messengers, inositol 1.4,5-trisphosphate and diacylglycerol.'
