A one-dimensional cobalt phosphate, (R, S)-(C 5 H 14 N 2 ) Co(HPO 4 ) 2 1 has been synthesized in a predominantly nonaqueous environment by using (R, S)-2-methylpiperazine as templates and characterized by single-crystal X-ray di4raction. 1 has a so-called square-twisted (ts) chain containing cornersharing four-ring of alternating CoO 4 and PO 4 tetrahedra. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 /n with a ‫؍‬ 8.6115(2) A > ,
