β¦ Synopsis
The synthesis and the phyaco-chemlcal properties of the bts 3,7,8,12,13,17,1 S-octakls-(octhylthlo)-5,10,15,20_tetraazaporphynnato)lutetmm(III) double-decker complex, Lu(OOTTAP)~, are described ESR, 'H and "C NMR, UV-vlslble and NIR studies show the radical nature of this compound and suggest that the unpaired electron cannot be asslgned to a specdic tetraazaporphynmc rmg on the time scales available Some relevant UV-vlstble spectroscopic and redox features of Lu(OOTTAP)2 resemble closely those of dlphthalocyanme complexes, while the mtenaty and vlbratlonal structure ofthe NIR spectra are rather remlmscent of those of bls-porphynn systems

Porphyrins with steric hindrance at the periphery are known to exhibit severely non-planar macrocycle conformations. Among other dodecasubstituted porphyrins, the title compound has been studied widely and shows a typical saddle-distorted macrocycle. The specific conformation of the porphyrin leads
