✦ Synopsis

In the crystals of (2,5-DM-DCNQI)2Cu the copper ions are arranged in chains, each surrounded by four stacks of the dicyanoquinonediimine (Fig. 3).[13] An electronic con-Fig. 3. Perspective view of the crystal structure along the cam,: the chain of copper atoms is surrounded by four stacks of 2,s-DM-DCNQI molecules (H atoms not shown). 0 =Cu, 0 =C, 0 = N . ductivity along the chain of copper ions is most unlikely because of the large Cu-Cu distance (Cu-Cu 388 pm, Cu(meta1) 256 pm). This could more likely take place along the stacks of the .n-electron systems. The copper ions apparently take on the function of a conductivity bridge between the individual stacks. The fact that no ESR signal can be recorded (very large broadening) and the high conductivity with no phase transition both point to a multidimensional c o n d ~c t o r . " ~]

The reaction of dibenzenediselenide, (SePh) 2 , with mercury in refluxing xylene gives bis(benzeneselenolato)mercury(II), [Hg(SePh) 2 ], in a good yield. ( n Bu 4 N)[Hg(SePh) 3 ] is obtained by the reaction of [Hg(SePh) 2 ] with a solution of [SePh] Β± and ( n Bu 4 N)Br in ethanol. The solid state st
