## Abstract The copperβdeficient title compound La~3~Cu~5βx~Te~7~ (x = 0.07, 0.14, 0.12) is synthesized from the elements (graphite crucible in a sealed silica tube, 1073 K, 14 d) and characterized by single crystal XRD, electrical measurements, and LMTO band structure calculations.
The X-ray photoemission core level spectra of TlCr 5 Se 8 and Tl 0 2 Cr 5 Se 8 de5nitely exclude the oxidation of Tl(I) to Tl(III) when Tl is removed using a topotactic redox reaction between TlCr 5 Se 8 and bromine in acetonitrile. Alterations are only observed for the multiplett structure of the C
