Tl-2201 superconductor is discovered by high-resolution time-of-flight neutron and synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction studies of "orthorhombic Tl-2201". Oxygen-rich compositions with Tc values up to 50 K are monoclinic whereas less oxidized samples with Tc values of 50-90 K are orthorhombic (Fmmm)

✦ Synopsis
A new cuprate with the composition In 2 Ba 2 CuO 6؊ ( ؍ 0.1) has been synthesized in the temperature range 890-910°C in air. The cuprate crystallizes in an orthorhombic cell with the lattice parameters of a ؍ 5.545, b ؍ 5.425, and c ؍ 24.46 A s . The resistivity of the cuprate at room temperature is as high as 8.1 M cm. Chemical analysis and XPS data show that the indium-based cuprate contains 1.5 mol% of oxygen vacancies, probably located in the CuO 2 planes, which would lead to the high resistivity.
