โฆ Synopsis
The absolute configuration at C-3 of A-factor, 2-(6_methylheptanoyl)-3-hydroxymethyl-4-butanolide 2, was determined to be S by synthesizing (3S)-(+)-A-factor.

A central segment of a cluster of biosynthetic genes for the antibiotic streptomycin cloned from Streptomyces griseus was analysed for open reading frames, as well as for transcriptional and translational activity. The nucleotide sequence revealed two significant open reading frames, ORF1 and APH(6)
## Abstract Aโfactor C~13~H~22~O~4~ was shown to be not only the inductor of the biosynthesis of streptomycin in inactive mutants of __Streptomyces griseus (Actinomyces streptomycini)__, but also the potent regulator of differentiation of the cells: it induces the formation of spores in asporogenou
## Abstract Five nonโstreptomycinโproducing mutants of an industrial strain of __Streptomyces griseus__ lacking aerial mycelium formation were compared with their genetic ancestor and another producing mutant with regard to the NAD(P)โglycohydrolase activity during cultivation on different media. B
Cobalt ions synergistically supported the inducing effect of A-factor 1a on the formation of aerial mycelium and anthracyclines by the blocked S. griseus mutant 86. This suggested an involvement of effector 1a in the transport or metabolism of this trace element. In accordance with the proposed role
