✦ Synopsis

Nonacarbonyl-bis(ps-fluoronethylidyne)triiron reacts with alkynes in very regioselective carbon-carbon bond formation forming diferra-allyl-clusters, Fe3 (CO)8 (u3-CF) (~a-CF-CR-CR'). These capped nido cluster compounds undergo thermal isomerization to the corresponding ferrol clusters. In addition dinuclear ferrol compounds are obtained as decomposition products.
