✦ Synopsis

Syntheses of trienones 2 and 3 and their Diels-Alder reactions with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and benzoquinone are described. The ketone and methyl groups in trienones 2 and 3 appear to be repulsive factors comrolling ~t facial selectivity in their Diels-Alder reactions. Large amounts ofexo adducts are formed m the benzoquinone reactions.
